PIQ-ALARM SYSTEM

ABOUT THE PROJECT
PIQ is a user experience design project completed by a team of 3 within a week. Our target costumers are college students or anyone who shares the house with other people. It is an alarm system designed to avoid awkwardness between roommates when one accidentally break into the other's room at the wrong time. Basically, it is a system that builds onto the door knob and indicates the current status in the room by different colors on an LED ring. The user can use the app (which connects to the door knob) to either set the status of his own door or check the status of his roommate's door.
The name "PIQ" comes from the word "peak".

CONCEPT MAP
The idea is that roommates can have a peak of each other's state through this app in place of trying to knock on each other's door.

USER INTERFACE DESIGN
This app is designed based on a model of two people shared apartment, which is a really common situation among college students. There are 4 different states for the door and I designed different interface for each of them.
Status 1-I'm here, come in. When the user set his door in this status, his door is unlocked. When his roommate's status is set in this mode, it means the user is welcomed to visit anytime.

Status 2-Do not disturb. When the user set his door in this status, his door is locked. When his roommate's status is set in this mode, it means this is not an appropriate time ti visit.

Status 3-I'm not here. When the user set his door in this status, his door is locked. When his roommate's status is set in this mode, it means he is out of the room.

Status 4-I'm here, stay quiet. When the user set his door in this status, his door is unlocked. When his roommate's status is set in this mode, it means he's in the middle of something that needs a quiet environment.

Overriding feature. In a case of emergency, you can choose to override your roommate's setting by swiping down on Do Not Disturb status menu. There are two levels of overriding. You can either choose to gently ask or force open. When you choose the gently open option, the app will send a push notification to your roommate's phone.

CONCEPT SKETCH
